I'm trying to import a list of tags into FactoryTalk, but it fails. It is not an issue with formatting in the import file as trying to export and import the existing tag database fails with the same error message. I seriously doubt I need Visual Studio running to import tags... |

Updating with what worked for me:

I found a technote that gives a possible solution:
Related technotes on the Rockwell support site also describe trying to install the software on another computer running Windows Server 2003 and attempting the tag import / export there.

There is a possibility that you may need to update to a newer Roll-up Patch; however, the fix may be much simplier than that. If you have version 5.0 or older install on your computer then you have to launch a different Tag Import / Export Wizard. Not really sure why, but in the older version you have to run the Import / Export Wizard found on your Start Menu. Go Start Menu -> All Programs -> Rockwell Software -> FactoryTalk View -> Tools and then select Tag Import / Export Wizard. That version will allow you to export and import all your tags without a problem. Hopefully that works, if not upgrading your Roll-up patch to the latests version is never a bad idea. |

What version are we talking about here?
I'm using version 18, vanilla off the Rockwell Rev18 disk set.
Also, while not the best solution, I was able to create a new project on a different workstation (version 17) and import the tag database into the project. I'm guessing it has something to do with a bad install of version 18.
